any advice appreciated
My 485 and 131 were received by National Benefits Center October 5, 2023. I had my local congresswoman reach out a few months ago and still no progress. I'm Canadian and have been living in the US. I'm really starting to struggle not being able to go home to see my family. I had hoped that since I've had 01 visas to work here since 2016 it would be easier! Is there anything I can do? How long should i expect to wait?

Hi! I would suggest you send an inquiry to the USCIS through your account. I’m sure you qualify for it for the I-131 form. I-485 seems to be within the estimated time , so you can’t do much other than wait and hope to be lucky.

Canadian. all in it was 16 months for my green card. you’re probably pretty close. I got my 131 approved after almost 12 months. hang in there.

@Carly F Hi, 👋 also Canadian. I am sorry to hear about your wait. My dad died in June and I went back on an emergency parole and now my mum has cancer and they denied my expedite request. The system is not good. I am surprised that yours is taking so long given you have been in the US for so long. @w s 🇨🇦🇺🇸 is kind of an expert on here. So I agree. I think reaching out to a congressperson is good and could help. I have said in here that I want to know the inner workings of USCIS. Maybe when I get citizenship I will get a job with them. I really hope things work out for you and you get an approval soon. It is hard not to be able to go home. Please post some updates. I am a daily reader now.

@Kingsley B so sorry to hear about your parents ❤️❤️ that thought is absolutely adding to my worries - if something happens I can't get back to be there for my family! The system is frustrating for sure!

@Carly F Hi, I was not trying to add to your worries. Very sorry for that. When my dad died, he had months to live and decided to do the medically assisted dying in Ontario. So he had a “dying date”. I was given an interview right away in person in Detroit. I live in the upper peninsula of MI. Very long drive. I had letters from three doctors. I was given the EAP on the spot. My mother had been having chest and back pain. Thought it was stress and grieving. Her doctor finally ordered a scan of her spine. I believe this was now 6 weeks ago. She had not seen an oncologist yet. She was told she had “likely” late stage bone cancer and multiple myeloma blood cancer. I applied for the expidite travel parole with minimal initial finding from her doctor. So I applied very fast afterwards. She has now seen two oncologists. She is figuring out treatment. She probably has 1 year to live. She is like the healthiest person. It has been very shocking. Sorry have I given you a whole story. I will be applying again next week with letters from her oncologists. They will probably approve it. If not, I will be the illegal person sneaking into Canada 🇨🇦….. that ice 🧊 will be freezing….lol Please don’t worry about being able to get back. They will let you if it is an emergency. I feel you will get an approval very soon. There are many wonderful people on this app. I am greatful for it. Makes me both happy and frustrated.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I lost my mom in a similar way, she was very healthy and had a cough that wouldn't go away that turned out to be cancer. I wish I could help you! if anything I'll cause a distraction so you can sneak across!
