EAD “lost” (Never sent by USCIS). Weird story
I want to share a story that recently happened to me regarding my Employment Authorization Card.
My lawyers submitted a request to renew my work permit for the second time, and it was quickly approved after my biometrics were taken on November 13, 2024. The last update on my case indicated that the card had been produced, but the tracking number appeared as “NOT AVAILABLE.” Trusting the process, I patiently waited for the mail service to deliver the envelope to my home, but days passed, and it never arrived.
Last Monday, I alerted my lawyers so they could take action since my current work permit expires next week, and I still haven’t received my new card. They immediately contacted USCIS, where they were informed that the card had been mailed in November and had likely been lost in transit. In response, my lawyers reached out to the postal office but did not receive a clear answer.
On my end, I decided to visit the local post office to inquire about the envelope. There, I was informed that, according to their records, USCIS never sent the card, meaning it was never in USPS’s hands. They even provided me with proof confirming that the card was still at USCIS. I sent this proof to my lawyers, who contacted USCIS again.
This time, USCIS responded that the only option was to apply for a new card, as their system showed the previous one had already been sent, and they could do nothing to deliver it. The most absurd part is that, according to postal records, the envelope never left the state where it was produced and never reached the state where I reside.
The result? Now I have to wait for a new authorization to be approved before I can work—all of this despite the fact that USCIS had already approved my card and the issue was entirely out of my control.
I am a religious worker.

So sorry this happened to you! Not sure if you’re aware of this - you can continue working with your current EAD once you apply for renewal card.
