Hi everyone, I’ve recently married my American citizen fiancé and was looking at the adjustment of status process. Looking for a lawyer suggestions OR in your personal experience can I DIY this.
Hi everyone, as the title suggests and alittle more context, I came on F1 Visa, I’ve also applied the TPS myself and got approved, I have a 1 year EAD. My case is an adjustment of status case since I came to the US legally — to me it seems like a straight forward case. I spoke to a number of lawyers and the fees they charge is enormous I can’t wrap my head around. I’ve been quoted 10,000 without government fees.
Can someone pls suggest any good reasonably priced lawyers? It would also be easier for me to make a decision knowing how much it costs but every law firm wants to do consultation that costs at least $250 and it’s alittle hard to make a decision without spending thousands before even hiring a lawyer.
I was also contemplating on whether I should do the process myself. I’ve always been good with documents and never had an issue applying for visas around the world. My husband however does not want us to make any silly mistakes and is comfortable with getting it done through a lawyer. Appreciste any leads/help I can get with this.
thank you!

You can totally do it yourself. It doesn’t hurt to maybe consult with a lawyer for like an hour to get some info on what USCIS is looking for if you are unsure (but as someone already said you can easily find everything online if you do some research). When it comes to the actual filing, having a lawyer doing it is the absolute scam. You will have to literally fill out a document with all the info and the law office will just copy and paste that into the actual form.
We also filed the entire thing ourselves and got approved without any issues.

DIY worked for me. YouTube and HIL daily shows helped me 1000%. I started this journey in July 2023, EAD arrived Sept 20th, I130/I485 actively reviewed status as of Sept 8th, waiting on decision. I’m located in TX.
Highly recommend you study the process and DO NOT RUSH through this if you decide to do this w/o a lawyer.
READ every form, and every form INSTRUCTIONS line by line.
Every time I went back through the forms I found an error so it actually took me a full month before I felt confident submitting my packet.
