My experience using my EAD at Chicago O’Hare airport
I live in Chicago but l left the US from Newark airport on January 10 and spent 10 days in Europe then a week in Mexico before flying back to Chicago. Upon arrival, I handed the immigration officer my passport and combo card. He then asked me to follow him to secondary inspection to process the advance parole since it was my first time using it. I waited on a bench in the waiting room for about 15 minutes and another officer called my name and gave me my documents without any questions and I was on my way out. I think they just pulled out my USCIS file and verified my documents and application. The waiting time really depends on how busy the officers are. I think that If you’ve never overstayed your visa or had any problems with law enforcement, then you should be allowed in. I’m married to a US citizen and we have our GC interview scheduled for February 8.

wow so u haven’t gone for interview and they let u in. I think this is a good news for me. did my interview dec 22nd and waiting for my green card before booking my flight. want to go and see my parents. and I’m planning to spend a month. but I’m just scared of the risk.

That’s the idea of the EAD. It allows you to leave and come back. Your case is different since you had your interview done already. I recommend asking a lawyer

GED, it’s the same thing. The only risky part of traveling after interview is if you ever get denied while you are outside, they will never let you in.

@ged Chicago quick question, did you applied AOS within your 6 months stay or after?
GED ChicagoFeb 1, 2022
Before the end of my 6 months
sam singhFeb 1, 2022
@ged I applied for AOS after 1 year of my 6 month stay. is it safe to use AP.
GED ChicagoFeb 1, 2022
Since you overstayed your visa I think it’s better to wait for your green card. I would consult a lawyer. They can assist you better
sam singhFeb 1, 2022
