Is it necessary to obtain a citizenship certificate by filing N 600 for a minor? It’s quite expensive. Isn’t a passport enough for all purposes? What are the specific cases where a citizenship certificate is required? I have heard for college admissions we may need it. Can anyone explain. Thank you.

I thought my spouse had a citizenship certificate when he got it through his dad as a minor but I just used his US passport as proof , that worked .

passport alone may not be accepted as proof of citizenship.

What does your minor child has now? naturalization certificate or GC? if he or she has a passport what documents did you use to get it?
