TB test positive. Medical exam
civil surgeon says my TB test is positive (blood test). I don't see how that is possible. I had 2 BCG vaccines as child. Didn't leave country in a year. No TB symptoms. Hardly go out due to COVID. Has anyone faced this? Going to get X-ray to verify [UPDATE: the X-ray was clear and doctor signed the I-693]

let him redo it or go to another hospital and do your test

xray. If you received BCG as a child, that causes false positive. Am a nurse and have seen this so many times
Buzz KingApr 13, 2022
@win, thank you. will go for x-ray

oh yea definitely go for x-ray, I always test positive so I don’t even bother with the test anymore i just do x ray
domino 22Apr 13, 2022
yes it happened to me. my chest X-ray is clear though. TB is airborne. mine is latent ( not active )

It could be normal since you had the TB vaccine. Ask them to do a blood test or they will just do a xray and see that you are clear.

it's called latent tb. you can have it despite all that. it's only when you get in contact with someone who had TB. it doesn't mean you are sick cause your body will fight it but as standard procedure you have to take meds for 6 month minimum or 9. you are better off taking meds because as we speak you are on every database that you tested positive. if you don't get treatment there will be no way forward for immigration. it's a must take medication. After finishing dosage you get certification and will always test positive. all you do is show your completion of dosage paperwork. don't be scared or in denial. it is for your own benefit. I hope that helps. talking from experience

at first i tested positive. after meds I was cleared and had xray. The health experts cannot give you such false information. They are sure you have latent TB. Just get experts to help you understand. I also had same Vax you had don't have an idea where it came from..could be beef, Friends, breathing, anything . actually a third of world population has it only dormant.it is times like these that you are found out. if it wasn't for immigration you would live all your life not knowing
Joy boatApr 13, 2022
@zen 2, are you sure that if you don't take the meds, there is no way forward for immigration?
z
zen 2Apr 13, 2022
oh yes! that's the whole reason you send that medical form 693? is to make sure you have no any infectious diseases such as TB. It is stipulated on USCIS website that if you have such diseases they have to deny your visa. Check on what's not illegible on uscis website bro! and if you are not willing CDC will send border control to come get you. it's crazy
domino 22Apr 13, 2022
if it’s latent and X-ray is clear, the doctor will sign the medical. i sent it 2 months ago with the initial package and got no RFE
z
zen 2Apr 13, 2022
@domino that's why for those who haven't done medicals they are not approved till they do. That is not out of joy, its the law. Am glad you haven't got an RFE. For me I had to wait for meds and i sent too , they will ask you to bring one during interviews if cray confirms that
Joy boatApr 13, 2022
@zen 2. I'm talking about the latent TB. It says on USCIS website that if your skin test is positive but your X ray is normal which is called the latent TB, you are medically cleared for immigration purposes. The doctor can recommend you to take some drugs but it is not required because it is a latent TB.

@ki some people do and let's hope Buzz is same as you but am only saying from my experience like he asked. am not saying some people won't have a false result.
z
zen 2Apr 13, 2022
@Joy like I said there will be false results for obvious reasons. once you test positive you will go for xray and only if xray confirm that then you can't move on. so why do they ask for Tb test if it's no use after testing positive?
BAYANO PARKERApr 13, 2022
@Buzz some doctors told me that we immigrants from others contry will always test TB positive but latent... which means the disease is there but it's sleeping and our XRay is just to prove and make sure that the germs is effectively sleeping. But nothing to worry about.
Jenn PApr 13, 2022
that happened to me back in my home country for college purposes but I did the x ray and too meds for 6 months then the doctor gave me a certificate he told me to keep it in case I need to do a medical in the future I would just show the certificate to the surgeon and they won’t even have to even let me to the test and X-ray again because I will always test possive.

@buzz X ray is a old technique that is not recommended and not 100% accurate, in contrary blood test is 100% accurate and has no side effects on you. so I would choose blood test rather than X ray.
domino 22Apr 13, 2022
sam : that’s not the regulation with USCIS civic surgeon. always TB spot / blood first and if it’s positive then u have to chest x ray. it’s on the USCIS website
Buzz KingApr 13, 2022
first time hearing about latent TB. I understand now. Thanks for all inputs will reply after x-ray results

It’s not necessarily true that you have latent TB based on the information you provided. As others said, it could be a false positive from your BCG vaccine. Did you have a skin test or a blood test?
Buzz KingApr 13, 2022
It was a blood test. Got the x-ray done. waiting for results. The x-ray technician said many people get positive on Blood tests and cleared after x-ray

I am currently going through this, the first civil surgeon says I have latent TB and had refuses to sign my medical even after X-ray says clear and normal ( at first she says everything is good and to come pick up my results) she gave me referral to my PCP to get a pass if treatment is needed or not, well! I went to another civil surgeon with all my results and she was like everything is completed and I am good to go, she signed all paperwork for immigration and sealed it up, I went to the first clinic for a refund because I had already paid. But I still check in with my PCP which referred me to the infectious disease specialist to be sure if treatment is needed or not. I am waiting on them to call me today because I faxed in all the blood results and X-ray yesterday. My interview is on Monday, had it been I waited on the intructions of the first civil surgeon, I am pretty sure I wouldn’t have my medical exam results ready and taken with me.
