Got my green card🎉

Finally got my green card. It’s been a long journey of 5 years. We applied for my first case in 2019 and got denied in 2021 because they claimed we didn’t submit enough proof and “pictures were taken for immigration purposes”.  They were pictures we submitted in response to an RFE for proof of valid marriage. One of the pictures was a family picture with my cats we sent to my family previously. We didn’t have much to send because we already gave them everything we had during the interview a few months ago and most of our marriage was during COVID at that point. Also the first case was DIY, I did a lot of research though. We submitted more than enough evidence though, texts from the past 5 years, photos from the past 5 years, health insurance together, joint bills, cashapp transactions since 2016, etc. The only thing we didn’t have was a joint bank account and car insurance because I wasn’t working or driving. My lawyer said he’s surprised the case got denied as we had a lot of evidence and it’s probably because I’m Nigerian. Anyways we got a lawyer and filed an EOIR29 appeal for the denial but have never gotten a response back. Our lawyer said they lost in the limestone cave archives. Six month later at the end of February 2022 we filed a new i485+ i130 case with our lawyer and way more evidence including a joint bank account and car insurance. The case got sent back because they said there was no payment even though it was there(it just wasn’t in the front). We sent it right back in March and it wasn’t accepted till May 2022 for some reason. Got my EAD in March 2023 and didn’t hear anything else till May 2024. Then I got 2 “case is being reviewed” in 2 weeks on i485. Then my i130 got approved in August. Then they took back the approval a week later with some BS about proving my husbands (first middle last name) is the same person as (first last name). Turns out his middle name was missing on his birth certificate but it’s on every other document. Luckily my husband also had a passport with his middle name so we submitted that and other documents as proof of his name + citizenship. Our lawyer gave us an option to change his name on his birth certificate but I thought that would take way too long because we would have to get a court order and there was no issue with my husband getting a passport recently with that same birth certificate. We also submitted an affidavit from him and his dad that he was the same person and never officially changed his name. Two weeks after submitting it, the i130 was approved. In September got an RFE for the medical exam, submitted it a month later and a few days later the case was approved 🎉. Case was approved on a Saturday(didn't know they even worked then) and card was produced 5 days later. Card was shipped 4 days later(longest 4 days ever). Then it was shipped to my lawyers office Wednesday and I picked it up the next day. Tldr: my first case got denied. Appeal was literally lost. Filed another case and it got approved. Lots of difficulties in the case.
