Can granted asylee travel to saipan without Refugee travel document? Can I travel there and back with only driver licence?
Saipan is part of US. I plan to travel from US mainland -> hawaii -> guam -> saipan. This flight does not leave US but I see guam and saipan needs CBP inspection. Is it possible that they do not allow me back if I only have driver licence? #asylum #travel

no, you have applying for advance parole or travel document refugee
dashhai wangNov 14, 2024
why? I did not leave US. Why I need AP or RTD? @Momo M @Erik ap

why are you traveling to Saipan anyways? they have "independent" customs & border protection same as American Samoa does, it is slightly different from Puerto Rico from the legal standpoint so you do need an RTD @dashhai wang

@dashhai wang if you not live US, how you granted asylee? people can't apply for Asylum outside the country but you can apply for refugee, is different

@Immigration Guy did you or your friends go there before, is there any official documentation from cbp saying this. I asked chatgpt, it said go to saipan is not considered leaving US

You can’t, you need to clear customs because Saipan allow certain Asia country to enter without a Visa, therefore there will be custom and without proper document you will not be allow to be enter even you are granted asylum

I believe there are articles saying online that you can travel Honolulu-Guam with only real ID. However it only applies direct flight from Honolulu-Guam, but you cannot go on United Island Hopper which is the UA 154

i have a tool that airlines use for travel that gives these details. i've shared it in my group. I've worked as paralegal for years. here's the group and you can put a random name to stay anonymous: https://www.skool.com/uscis

you don't need travel document or passport, you just need driver's license/Id card , most of the flight to Saipan from mainland to Korea then Saipan or Philippines then Saipan in this case you need passport but your flight mainland Hawaii Guam Saipan you don't need passport, PS tickets from mainland to Saipan without leaving us territory is very expensive abut 2000$ on way ! good luck

@ed wl thanks! But there is CBP from saipan to guam and from guam to hawaii. Will driver license be enough to get clearance?
ed wlNov 15, 2024
cbp is federal agency everywhere in US states and territory is the same you don't need passport just stay within the US
ed wlNov 15, 2024
the airline company they will tell you, you don't need passport
dashhai wangNov 15, 2024
@ed wl thanks! Have you travelled thus way before? Is there a way for me to check with airline company before buying tickets?
ed wlNov 15, 2024
i didn't travel to Saipan I did to Hawaii you can call the airline before you book

You need to request a travel permit document in case an emergency occurs. The plane needs to land in another country. It is a precaution.

@dashhai wang okay, you earthier going to listen my not legal advice but opinion based on fact or you going to find out in your own. the stuff what some of you saying here isn’t correct. Hawai is part of states therefore driver license is fine. technically territories part of us but the only territory you can go is Puerto Rico. other territories you most likely faces the problems, they are going to ask you for permanent residence or citizenship. you have a chance to be end up in bad position. that’s what’s happened to one of my friend, she went to virgin island and they put her in removal proceeding.
dashhai wangDec 1, 2024
@nkr tt i check with cbp SF field office and they told me the key point is whether your asylum is approved. If it is approved, then you are find just bring your asylum status related documents
nkr ttDec 1, 2024
@dashhai wang yes that’s will work, as long as you have status. pending petition isn’t a status.
dashhai wangDec 1, 2024
@nkr tt so your friend who is put in removal proceding is not asylum approved? just in pending status?
