@Alexer andria thanks for your input, the suit number is not online, because as at 2014 that didn’t exist, I sent my parents to high court in Lagos, I was told they can re-issue it and will be verifiable online , however the suit number won’t be the same.do you have any contact, or someone you can refer me to please? @vee k if your divorce was done in 2014, it should be verifiable online except it wasn’t properly filed. I worked at high court ikeja before relocating to the US.

@F A please what about the customary court divorce.I used my customary court I did at Ibadan and it is real.Can they verify that one too?

@Alexer andria you are right, it’s very possible. @DD Mm I’m not sure how that works. You can contact one of the nigerian immigration lawyers, they will know better

@vee k where married in civil court or you did a religious or traditional marriage and if yes those are not recognized in United States and you would do is present an affidavit.

@Question Mark No I did a court wedding. also I contacted an Attorney today in Nigeria, they confirmed if they input marriage info online , the system will generate a new suit number , but all information will be the same , I don’t know if that works , I am so stressed😭

guys a lot of us here are in this shoe right now. is there a way we can chat on WhatsApp so to help one another if anyone is in need as how many of us can not even travel home to correct such mistake… although my vawa was approved last month and just now, my rfe request has just been updated which I don’t know what it is. I just pray it’s just medicals…. honestly it’s draining….

@DD Mm …speak to your lawyer. there’s no divorce papers for traditional marriage because it’s not recognized in the us.

your RFE is for medicals or birth certificate under the updated i485@dee bee . your RFE should be under your i485

@divine intervention so does that mean they wont ask bout my divorce as my vawa was approved? I didn’t get any rfe till approval…. I alrwady submitted my birth certificate at the initial submission. an affidavit actually I remember. it is well with us all.

if it is under your i485 , means medical @dee bee

wow!! I was worried that it might be some sort of ish as I have read they request more docs regards that and when my 360 got approved, I was surprised but still believe God has His ways of doing things. and everyone’s case is unique. I guess I should start looking for a surgeon asap. before the letter gets to me… we ll all end it with praise. thank you @divine intervention

@dee bee did they need to verify your divorce aswell? and when did you get divorced in Nigeria?

@Shanice blue I was expecting them to talk bout my divorce as it’s a customary divorce. I got divorced before I left nigeria in 2015

Divorce in Nigeria is not done by proxy, you must appear before a judge. if you did not appear before a judge, the divorce is not genuine. USCIS will probably go for further verification even if it can be verified online. If you're lucky they will not go for manual verification.

@vee k Your divorce is obviously not authentic. My advice to you is never to make this kind of statement in front of a USCIS officer. All Nigerian divorce requires appearances before a judge. if you ever say that "not all Nigerian divorce requires appearance" you're finished. They have all the details of divorce procedure in Nigeria.

@az az I filed it in high court 2014, I never appeared because it was non contested , my ex signed, it was also stamped and signed ,I faxed it to an immigration lawyer in Nigeria and he verified authenticity, my problem was it’s not verifiable online. so what do you advise in this case? And no, I was definitely not going to tell the officer I did not appear before a judge . If they verify manually then I am good.

@vee k if you're 100% sure you went to the court yourself and filed the case and the judge signed the divorce, then you have nothing to worry about. if you did it by proxy then you should be worried. hope it is not Lagos high court.
