Yes it can be used to get financial aid for college, health insurance through the market place etc... @The chosen one if someone already has a I-485 pending, please quickly send a letter to the USCIS office where the I-485 is, usually your local office if the interview was already scheduled and ask them to hold your I-485 in abeyance. If you go to the interview, just explain your situation to the officer and ask him/her to hold I-485 in abeyance. As long as your I-485 is pending, your I-765/131 will be valid.

wow yessssss. you get financial aid with prima facie. i will advise you go to college because it just 15 months or so. programs like an rn,lvn or other short term career courses are great
