Joined Military Got Citizenship in 2 Months
I have been struggling to get my papers for the last 7 and a half years. But I was able to get it done after I became a citizen. I joined Army Reserve and I had my citizenship in about 2 months after applying. It is very quick. I have children outside the country and I had filled their I-130 as a green card holder and then the visa bulletin for F2A retrogressed and I realized it would take them many years to get their green card and I immediately joined the Army Reserve to speed up the citizenship. Now am working to update with NVC and USCIS for their cases to be upgraded. Thank you all and I wish you all well. #F2A #Naturalization

Yes I did, but you don't need the 10 year green card. You can join with the conditional green card.

did you applied for citizenship while you got enlisted or you waited one year and then applied to citizenship?

immediately, right now you don't have to wait for one year as it is still considered a time of war. You get your citizenship while in Basic training. They really expedite it. if you are in guard or Reserve you can even get it before basic after your first drill and and O6 signs your paper work before you join basic.

I thought the army files for you and you get it automatically. do they let people do the process on their own ?

The Army does not file for you. The Army signs for you form N-426 and you apply to USCIS. You won't pay anything. USCIS will speed up your case just because you are in the Army. USCIS will work closely with you since they want you to be a citizen soonest possible.

Hello Godie, May you confirm if I will be required to travel overseas if I sign with them? And how can I make sure they won’t send me overseas? And will I be a soldier holding a weapon? Or will be able to work in my degree like being an engineer? Is there a timeframe to stay with them? for example serving for 3 year? Or can I just quit once the training is completed?

Do you know of any phone number to contact USCIS as a military officer? My friend who is a military officer applied for citizenship since march of this year but hasn’t heard from them. She is a US Marine reservist. Between she got an rfe that took her almost 3months to provide because she couldn’t get hold of her chain of command to sign a document for her early enough.
